New Protection for Personal Health and Identification Information in Health Claims

Technology proves optimal claim security with combination of on- and off-shore processing

June 2, 2010 — (Richardson, TX and Las Vegas, NV) — Responding to increasing concern about the protection of PHI (Protected Health Information) on health claims, as well as PII (Personally Identifiable Information) processed off-shore, GTESS Corporation is highlighting its Claim Redaction technology, which includes removal of all PII from the digital claim file and claim image prior to its dispatch for off-shore processing. GTESS is demonstrating this technology at the AHIP "Institute", healthcare's annual industry conference June 9-11, 2010.

GTESS, a provider of health claims pre-adjudication technology and services, designed its technology, The GTESS System™, with special security and control features that remove PII from the claim image and data prior to the data correction and investigation phase. GTESS will show how their technology eliminates PHI so that clients can enjoy the low costs associated with off-shore processing, but with the reassurance that PII is processed securely on-shore. GTESS offers clients three options for processing health claims:

  • 100% on-shore at their US operations center;
  • 100% off-shore with their overseas partners; or
  • with the hybrid Redaction model where 100% of PII is processed at their on-shore operations center while non-PII is processed off-shore.

The GTESS System with Redaction
GTESS accomplishes the vast majority its pre-adjudication services with automation, yet some claims require human intervention to achieve industry-leading quality results. Redaction uses GTESS' form definition technology to "slice" through each claim image and physically separate the PII section from the rest of the claim. Each image fragment can be independently routed to data correction and investigation teams in separate locations. The fragments containing PII are routed exclusively to GTESS on-shore locations. Additionally, within the GTESS Redaction option, pixel values in the non-PII claim image are obliterated, removing PHI and eliminating security risks. John Christopherson, GTESS EVP & CTO, describes the benefits, "Clients appreciate this enhanced claim security delivered at an attractive price point between off-shore and on-shore solutions. Our innovative hybrid approach provides a unique processing model with rock solid technology that ensures PHI protection."
